Iraqi intelligence forces gun down Islamic State terrorist in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi military intelligence forces on Sunday killed an Islamic State militant and destroyed a number of terrorist hotbeds in the eastern province of Diyala.

“Acting upon accurate intelligence reports, a security operation was launched to destroy Islamic State terrorist hotbeds in Abu Sayda district in Diyala,” Alghad Press quoted the Iraqi military intelligence directorate as saying in a press statement.

The Iraqi troops killed an Islamic State militant and destroyed several terrorist hotbeds following fierce clashes with the militant group, the statement read.

A large cache of military equipment, bombs and explosive belts were found inside the hideouts, added the statement.

Islamic State sniper wounds two Iraqi soldiers in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – Two Iraqi soldiers were wounded on Saturday night when an Islamic State sniper opened fire at them in Diyala province, a local source was quoted as saying.

“A security checkpoint located at the entrance of Hamrin basin, 54 km northeast of Baqubah, came under a sniper attack by Islamic State militants late last night,” the source told Baghdad Today news website on Sunday.

“Two Iraqi soldiers were wounded as a result of the attack,” added the source, warning that the sniper attacks by Islamic State militants have claimed the lives of several security forces in the past months.

Unidentified gunmen shoot Iraqi serviceman dead in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – An Iraqi serviceman was killed Sunday in an armed attack in the rural province of Diyala, a security source said as the country still suffers from the lack of stability despite the defeat of the Islamic State militant group in December 2017.

“Unidentified gunmen opened fire at a serviceman while crossing a highway near the Shia-majority city of Khan Bani Saad in the province of Diyala, leaving him dead,” the source told Almaalomah news website.

“Security forces cordoned off the site and launched a manhunt for the culprits,” said the source.
