Fierce clashes breakout along Colombian-Venezuelan border as tensions rise between opposition, gov’t
[ALMASDARNEWS] Fierce clashes reportedly broke out along the Colombian-Venezuelan border today, as opposition and government groups confronted one another on the Simon Bolivar Bridge.The situation is still not clear, pro-opposition accounts claim that pro-government collectivos and pro-Guaido supporters engaged in an intense shootout at the Simon Bolivar Bridge. This shootout comes just two days after Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido announced the last phase of his attempt to overthrow the government of Nicolas Maduro. The Venezuelan government has responded to Guaido’s announcement by calling on their supporters to take to the streets and protest against the opposition. Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration stated that they would not rule out military intervention in Venezuela, despite pleas by Russia and China to avoid any confrontation with the government.
