Egypt court upholds death sentences for 13 members of Ajnad Misr
[AlAhram] Egypt's top appeals court upheld on Tuesday death sentences against 13 members of the terrorist group Ajnad Misr,
... after breaking off from Ansar Bayt al Maqdis, which was then still linked to Al Qaeda, they possibly allied with the Muslim Brotherhood after the Egyptian army evicted the MB from the government. But at any rate they ranked #12 on the UAE terror blacklist. They mostly blew up Cairo policemen with IEDs they made themselves...
who were convicted on charges including murder.

The defendants were first handed the death penalty
by a lower criminal court in December 2017 before they later appealed the sentences.

They were convicted on the murder of security personnel, attempted murder, joining an outlawed group, and possessing firearms, in association with events that took place between 2013 and mid-2015.

Tuesday's rulings by the Court of Cassation, the country's highest court, are final and cannot be appealed.
Whew! I’m sure all involved are glad that’s over, even those not keen on their personal outcomes.
Ajnad Misr, or Soldiers of Egypt, emerged in early 2014 and grabbed credit for a number of attacks on security forces, mainly in the Egyptian capital. The group was designated a terrorist organization by the Egyptian government in the same year.

Its leader was killed by security forces in 2015,
... that would be Hammam Mohammed Attia the bomb maker, formerly of Ansar Bayt al Maqdis back when it was Al Qaeda in the Sinai, who died in his beloved Giza at the age of 33. At the time of his death he was in possession of an automatic firearm, a pistol, four bombs including one with a magnet so that it could be attached to a car, 18 incomplete bombs, materials used to make bombs and over EGP 76,000...
and many of its members are in jail.

The court also upheld life sentences for 17 defendants, 15-year prison terms for two others and five-year terms for seven.
The Times of Israel adds:
The government in February 2018 launched a large-scale military operation against IS in the Sinai Peninsula of eastern Egypt. Around 600 suspected murderous Moslems and 40 soldiers have been killed so far, according to official figures.
