Three Philippine soldiers injured in ambush
[Inquirer] Three Philippine soldiers were injured in an ambush in the boundary of Barangay Sabong and Campo Uno in Lamitan City in Basilan on Thursday morning. Military spokesman Gerry Besana said the three personnel were on board two motorcycles when an unidentified armed group ambushed them. Police spokesman Rufino Inot said the three soldiers came from the market in Lamitan City and were on their way back to their headquarters when the unidentified assailants repeatedly fired at them. Sixteen empty shells were recovered from the crime scene. Besana said this was the first violent incident to happen in Basilan since the peaceful conduct of the midterm elections in the province.
