Alligator attack leaves Florida woman with 'significant' bite injuries
[USATODAY]Paramedics responded to Fay Lake Wilderness Park in Port St. John Saturday after a woman was bitten by an alligator.

Brevard County Fire Rescue said the woman had "significant" bite injuries and was transported by helicopter to a local hospital.

No information was immediately available on the age of the victim or the circumstances leading up to the bite.

Gator trapper Frank Robb responded to the scene after a call from Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. He was able to locate the gator in the area where the bite took place.

Robb was able to lure out the gator by mimicking its calls. Witnesses at the scene verified that it was the same animal that bit the woman.

Gators that attack humans or pets are always killed as a precaution against future attacks, according to FWC policy.

"He was probably an 8-footer missing 2 feet of his tail from an old fight, and most all of his teeth was missing," Robb said. Based on the gator's behavior and lack of fear, Robb said it had probably been fed in the past.
