Four killed in attack on military post in Thai south
[AFP] Four people were killed in a late-night attack by Muslim insurgents on a military outpost in southern Thailand, as dramatic footage emerged showing security forces diving for cover from a hail of gunfire and a grenade blast.Late on Tuesday, militants struck the remote base in Pattani province, throwing grenades and laying down nearly an hour of automatic fire. Military spokesman Thanawee Suwannarat said, "Four people were killed - an army sergeant-major, two defense volunteers and a villager." In the CCTV footage, security forces are seen scattering and diving to the ground as gunfire and an explosion erupt around them. The insurgents stole five machine guns, burnt tires and scattered spikes on the road as they fled to hinder any chase. Confirming the death toll, a police officer said two other people were in hospital in critical condition, in one of the deadliest single incidents to hit the region in months.
