Escaped Abu Sayyaf member gunned down
 Soldiers on Sunday killed an Abu Sayyaf bandit who was among those who bolted the Basilan Provincial Jail in April last year. Southern Command chief Lieutenant General Alberto Braganza said Abdulajid Awalal alias Jaid Awalal was killed in an encounter in Sitio (hamlet) Batolareg, Barangay (village) Mahatalang in Sumisip town, Basilan province Sunday at dawn. Colonel Raymundo Ferrer, 103rd Army Brigade commander, said residents earlier reported the presence of Abu Sayyaf bandits inside the rubber plantation of Tumahubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Incorporated.
