Condemnations pour in as Turkey continues Syria military operation, but not UNSC
[PRESSTV]  ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...'s military operation against Kurdish forces of Evil in northeast Syria has sparked a wave of condemnations from across the world, with the UN Security Council and Arab League ...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing... set to hold emergency meetings. In a post on its Twitter account early Thursday, the Turkey's Vice President, Fuat Oktay, also took to Twitter to stress the army's resolve to keep fighting the Kurdish forces of Evil in Syria, which Ankara views as gunnies linked to local autonomy-seeking forces of Evil of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). "Turkey, acting within the framework of its rights arising from international law and the ’right of self-defense’ set out in the UN Charter, is determined to drain the swamp of terror that threatens our borders and poses a threat to the whole world," he said. "It is our greatest expectation that the world public opinion will have the same determination in the fight against terrorist organizations," he added. Security Council fails to pass resolution condemning Turkish invasion of Syria [IsraelTimes] A divided UN Security Council fails to agree on a statement following a closed meeting on Turkey’s incursion into northeast Syria. The five European council members who called today’s meeting — there are 15 member countries — urged Turkey in a joint statement afterward “to cease the unilateral military action.” They say it threatens progress against the extremist Islamic State group by a global coalition. The Europeans warn that “renewed armed hostilities in the northeast will further undermine the stability of the whole region, exacerbate civilian suffering and provoke further displacements.” Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, whose country is a key Syrian ally, told reporters that any council statement on Syria must address broader issues, including the presence of foreign forces in the country. US Ambassador Kelly Craft tells reporters that US President Donald Trump “has made abundantly clear” that the United States “has not in any way” endorsed Turkey’s decision to mount a military incursion in northeast Syria.
