Russian warplanes kill several foreign jihadists as Syrian troops attempt to advance to Kabani
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Air Force unleashed another powerful attack on the northeastern countryside of the Latakia this week, as their warplanes wiped out several sites belonging to the jihadist rebels.

According to an army source, the Russian Air Force carried out more than 30 Arclight airstrike

s between the jihadist strongholds of Jisr al-Shughour, Kabani, and al-Sirmaniyeh.

The source said these Russian airstrikes primarily targeted the bases and hideouts of the foreigner-led Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP),
...the Al Qaeda-linked Uighur jihadi group from western China formerly known as the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) and other names. It claims to want a caliphate in Xinjiang, and according to China committed 200+ jihadi attacks causing over 600 casualties between 1990 and 2001. In 1998 they moved their headquarters to Kabul under the protection of the Taliban, then after 9/11 moved to North Waziristan under the protection of Pakistan branch of the Taliban (TTP). There is a second branch in Syria, allied with Al Nusra and Turkey. Also, a TIP man sits on Al Qaeda’s executive leadership council, and another is emir of Al Qaeda’s military force in Pakistan’s FATA. This may explain why China feels so strongly about the need to correct the thinking of their countrymen who remained behind...

At the same time as these Russian strikes, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a big attack on the southern axis of Kabani in a bid to retake the Zuwayqat Mountains.

A source from the 4th Armored Division told al-Masdar News that their troops were able to secure a small advance, but they have since halted their advance in order to weaken the jihadist defenses with missiles and artillery.

The Kabani axis in northeastern Latakia has proven to be one of the most difficult fronts for the Syrian Army, as the jihadist rebels of the Turkestan Islamic Party and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
