12 hurt in New Year jubilation firing, 15 suspects held
 [DAWN] Police authorities have arrested around 15 people for allegedly violating the government ban on firing shots into the air to herald New Year, which caused injuries to 12 persons, including three women and a minor girl, officials and rescue services said on Wednesday."Gravity is blasphemous!" According to hospital sources, 12 persons were shot at and maimed owing to jubilation firing carried out in different parts of the city on Tuesday night. Out of them, six maimed persons were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, said Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital. None of them sustained life-threatening wounds. Five more injured were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital while one person was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... , hospital sources added. An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that a minor girl was hurt in Gulshan-e-Iqbal who was taken to a private hospital. The rescue service official added Um-e-Banim, 12, was shot at and maimed near her residence in Block-4 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, when unknown persons resorted to firing.
