More cops died from suicide than were killed in the line of duty in 2019, study finds
- Advocacy group Blue H.E.L.P. released data showing at least 228 police officers killed themselves in 2019, compared to 132 who died in line of duty
- It is the highest number of police suicides since start of data collection in 2016
- New York state lead with 27 self-inflicted deaths, followed by California with 23 and Texas with 19
- Overwhelming majority of officers who took their own lives in 2019 were men
- More than 80 per cent of the officers who fell victim to suicide were white
