But the government claimed they had made gains against bad boys.

The Ministry of Defense said that in addition to launching dozens of military operations, re-capturing ten districts from the Taliban has been one of the most important military missions.

"Over the past solar year, the Taliban were prevented from overtaking government-controlled areas, while the Afghan army succeeded in bringing 50 percent of the country's territory under their (government) control," said Asadullah Khalid, acting defense minister.

"Nine districts have been cleared of opposition, there has been a decline in national and local police casualties, we've arrested 20,000 criminals and eliminated three large drug caches--these are the achievements," said Tariq Aryan, a front man for the Ministry of Interior.
