Sweden Health Agency Investigates High Coronavirus Death Toll In Elderly Care Homes

[Forbes] - Sweden’s coronavirus death toll now stands at 2,854. As the total accelerates ever higher than its Nordic neighbors, the Swedish Public Health Agency (FHM) is now looking at why the infection has hit the country’s elderly care homes so hard.
The Swedish capital Stockholm has been the epicenter of the outbreak in Sweden so far, accounting for almost half of all deaths recorded. According to data released last week, 630 of the 1,406 coronavirus deaths in Stockholm were people in elderly care homes. Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported that at least 541 care homes across Sweden have had at least one case of the coronavirus.

Deputy state epidemiologist Anders Wallensten said the extensive spread of the infection in elderly care homes was "highly unfortunate"* but didn’t believe Sweden’s delayed action on coronavirus restrictions was to blame:
