Colorado gov. reopens investigation into Elijah McClain’s death - he died after cops placed in chokehold and sedated with ketamine on his way home from convenience store
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] - Gov. Jared Polis announced Thursday he has ordered prosecutors to reopen the inquiry into the black unarmed 23-year-old's death
- He said the state 'owe[s] it to his family to take this step' and warned that charges could be brought against the cops involved
- AG Phil Weiser has been designated special prosecutor to the case
- This comes after Colorado DA Dave Young defended his decision to not charge three Aurora Police Department officers over the fatal arrest
- Elijah McClain, 23, died in police custody last year after buying iced tea from a convenience store and being stopped by cops for being 'suspicious'
- Police body camera footage showed that McClain briefly fainted, vomited repeatedly, said 'I can't breathe' and cried before going into cardiac arrest
