Taliban Suffer Heavy Casualties in Kandahar, 101 Militants Killed
[KhaamaPress] Kandahar security officials say more than 100 Taliban ...Arabic for students... fighters have been killed in festivities with security forces in the province overnight. Kandahar police front man Jamal Naser Barakzai told the media that 101 members of the Death Eater group had been killed in festivities between security forces and Taliban fighters in the Arghandab and Zherai districts of the province. He added that 64 Taliban fighters were killed in the Arghandab district and 37 others were killed in the Zherai district of Kandahar province. According to Barakzai, security forces have launched large-scale ground and air operations in parts of Arghandab district, where the Taliban have suffered heavy casualties. He said the operations took place in the Kohak and Nagahan areas, where, in addition to the 64 killed, 20 Taliban fighters were maimed. Fighting between security forces and Taliban fighters escalated last week in the Arghandab district, near the city of Kandahar, and continues to this day. According to the provincial security officials, heavy festivities between security forces and Taliban fighters are ongoing in Arghandab, Zherai, Panjwai, and Maiwand districts of the province. The Taliban have not yet commented on the group’s heavy casualties in Kandahar province. The government forces and the Taliban have both claimed to have inflicted casualties on each other in the festivities. "We all have left our houses to save ourselves. Over 10 families are living in one house," Kandahar resident Attaullah said. Security officials in Kandahar said heavy casualties have been inflicted to the Taliban in air and ground operations. "Most intensified attacks have been in Arghandab and Zherai districts. The Afghan Defense and Security Forces stopped them (the Taliban) with courage," said Bahir Ahmadzai, front man for Kandahar governor. Security officials said the Kandahar-Helmand highway will be cleared of the Taliban in near future, but the group has attacked Zherai and Arghandab districts that are close to highway.
