Here's what's gonna happen...
Thanks to the last successful bleg we have a brand new server that has a by now slightly outdated copy of the Rantburg server. I've been meaning to take it to Baltimore and do a swap. My problem is that I need someone to take me. When we lived in the Baltiburbs it was a twenty five minute drive. Now that we live in Biden country it's two and a half hours. I can't do it myself -- can't turn my head anymore. There's also COVID to consider. I've signed up with Comcast Business so I can keep the server in my bedroom. That's the best of all possible worlds, except for the Comcast part. We have xFinity, their residential service and we haven't been happy with it. We have a thirty day turn-off window, so if things don't work out we can find a physical host in our area and hopefully no harm done. Every time we've swapped servers something has gone wrong. One time we had everything set up, ready to go, and when I plugged it into the network the network card didn't work. (Solution: Plug the old box back in and let it run for another year. Expend a good deal of wind cursing HP.) The new box is a Dell with a Xeon processor and 32gb of memory. It's got 6 terabytes of storage and the same in backup. If anything were to go wrong, short of a house fire, we won't lose any data. I'm awaiting the call from Comcast. I figure it'll take a day or two to get the two boxes in sync.
