1 child killed, 4 others wounded in bombing in Jawala
[NRTtv] SULAIMANI — One child was killed and four others were wounded in a bomb blast in Jalawla’s Wahda neighborhood early on Friday (January 29), according to a security source.

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told NRT that Islamic State (ISIS) was to blame, but that it had likely planted the device years ago.

UNICEF’s acting Representative in Iraq Paula Bulancea on Thursday expressed concern about several recent incidents in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in which at least seven children were killed or wounded.

“Children and adolescents have the right to safety at all times, free from all forms of violence” under international law, Bulancea said.

In December, 2017, the Iraqi Security Forces, in cooperation with the Peshmerga and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and aided by Coalition airstrikes, declared victory over ISIS. Since then, the militant group has resorted to guerrilla hit-and-run tactics, but remains a potent threat in some parts of the country.
