5 die in shootout in southern Chihuahua state
Two separate armed groups traveling aboard SUVs staged a shoot out Sunday afternoon in southern Chihuahua, leaving a total of five dead, according to Mexican news accounts.

The groups were not identified. Report said the shooting lasted 30 mins. in Villa Coronado municipality.

According to La Polaka, however, the gun fight lasted an hour and took place in Ejido Iturralde. Thee unidentified men were shot to death and another two were beheaded.

Coronado municipality is adjacent to the northern border of Durango state.

In a related story, according to the Mexican news daily, El Heraldo de Parral, the director of Chihuahua state's State Security Commission (CES), Carlos Romero, state and local police patrol units entered the Sierra Tarahumara regional municipalities of Balleza, El Tule, and Huejotitan to conduct security patrols.

All of those municipalities are less than 10 kilometers from Villa Coronado municipality.

The report said that no criminal activities were reported during the operation.
