ISIS threats spark evacuation of 10 villages
[NRTtv] SULAIMANI — Head of Misra Organization for Yarsan Development and Culture Rajab Kakaiy said on Monday (February 15) that Kakayis have vacated ten of their villages out of a total of fifteen in Kirkuk governorate’s Daquq district because of the threat posed by Islamic State (ISIS) militants.

He told the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) official media outlet that the villagers did not have any problem when Peshmerga forces were in the area, but since October 2017 they have been constantly targeted by the group.

He said that ISIS continues to pose a threat to the villagers who have remained in the area.

He added that since the end of the Ba’athist regime, 254 local Kakayis have been killed for various reasons.

Also known as the Yarsan, Kakayis are a minority religious group who live in northern Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Iran.
