A source told the media that Taliban fighters attacked a security base in Nahr Siraj district of Helmand province last night, killing at least 20 security personnel and wounding 14 others.

Helmand Police confirmed the festivities have occurred, but decline to give further details about the attack and the casualties.

A Taliban front man, Yusuf Ahmadi, tweeted that the group have attacked the base and inflicted heavy casualties on a key security outpost located in Nahr Siraj district. According to Ahmadi, the festivities took place last night in Wazirmand area of Nahr Siraj in Helmand province.

He claimed that 13 government forces were killed and 11 others were captured by the Taliban, also a government tank and 35 light and heavy weapons were taken by the group.
At least 11 members of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces were killed in two separate incidents in the southern province of Helmand on Sunday night, sources from security agencies said on Monday.

Two of the forces were killed in a car kaboom in Nawa district in Helmand, sources said.

Meanwhile, snuffies attacked a security forces outpost in Helmand-Kandahar highway on Sunday night in which nine members of Afghan forces were killed and four more were maimed, sources said.

Security officials have not commented on the two incidents.
