A 70 Year Old Apologizes
The following was seen in the Augusta Chronicle, a local newspaper now owned by the USA-Today group.Jerry W. - For over 70 years I have thought of myself as a good American citizen. I have no bias or malice toward anyone. I've worked all my life, served my country, community and church. Somehow I awoke this morning to find out I am a racist, bigot, homophobic, insurrectionist, terrorist, white-supremacist. I have never owned a slave or knew anyone who did. I've never known anyone who was a slave. I've worked with people of all creeds, religions, races, and political affiliations. I always thought we got along well. My neighbors are from all different backgrounds. It's only since last November that I have come to be known by all these other traits. How on earth did I not know this about myself for all those years?
