Google 'temporarily locks Afghan government email accounts as the Taliban tries to access servers used by previous officials' amid fears data will be used to track down US allies
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] - Google said Friday it was 'taking temporary actions to secure relevant accounts'
- The company stopped short of confirming accounts had been temporarily locked and it is not immediately clear how many accounts have been impacted
- Around two dozen Afghan government bodies used Google's servers to handle official emails, including ministries of finance, industry and higher education
- An employee of the former government said the Taliban asked him to preserve the data held on the servers of the government ministry he used to work for
- The employee said he did not comply and has since gone into hiding
- Fears are growing that the Taliban will use official files left behind during the US's turbulent withdrawal to track down and take revenge on Western allies
