White House warns US 'not adequately prepared' to handle future pandemics without new strategy as it lays out a $65 billion plan

- The new American Pandemic Preparedness plan would focus on enhancing vaccine creations and distribution efforts to combat future viruses
- It would also create a 'mission control' office to be overseen by Congress
- Lander said U.S. was not prepared for COVID-19 as nearly 40 million people were infected and more than 640,000 died
- Lander and other experts warned that a new pandemic could hit within the decade or sooner
