Gunfight breaks out in Poonch woods, 5 good guys toes up

A shootout broke out between murderous Moslems and security forces in Chamrer forest area of Surankote in J&K's Poonch district on Monday, officials said.

"Based on intelligence inputs, today morning Indian Army has launched a Cordon and Search operation in villages close to DKG in Surankote jurisdiction of district Poonch. The encounter with bandidos turbans is going on Further update follows, " an Army front man said.

 that the area falls close to Rajouri-Poonch border near Dehra Ki Gali tourism point.

They said that more reinforcements of both army and police including senior officers have rushed to the spot.

Reports said that a few Army personnel have received injuries in the shootout so far and their evacuation is going on.

Five Indian soldiers were killed in a fierce gunbattle with Kashmir on Monday, officials said, as violence in the disputed region has increased in recent weeks.

Police and soldiers cordoned off a forested area in southern Surankote area following an intelligence report that murderous Moslems were present there, said Lt. Col. Devender Anand, an Indian army front man.

As troops launched a search operation, murderous Moslems opened heavy gunfire that critically maimed an army officer and four soldiers, Anand said. They were evacuated to a nearest medical facility but died there, he said.

A reinforcement of soldiers and police was sent to the area, Anand said, adding that the fighting was ongoing.

No rebel group has immediately issued any statement.
