- Surgeons in Baltimore transplanted the pig heart on Friday and Bennett is said to be recovering and doing well, but it is too soon to know long-term effects
- Bennett was dying and ineligible for a human heart donation because heart failure and an irregular heartbeat made him ineligible
- He also disqualified himself by failing to follow doctors' advice, such as missing appointments and refusing to take medicine
- 'It was either die or do this transplant,' said Bennett before the operation. 'I want to live. I know it's a shot in the dark, but it's my last choice'
