Battle for French presidency billed as a choice 'between plague and cholera': Far-right Le Pen is first to cast vote in nail-biting election against Macron as voters head to polls in France today
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] So billed by those of the Left.
  • A big question now is how many of France's 48.7 million eligible voters won't cast ballots out of apathy

  • Choice between Macron
...center right, elitist, married to his school teacher, and once again the choice of those voting against Le Pen...
    and Le Pen
...populist, nationalist, therefore labelled far right by those who despise such things...
often compared to deciding 'between the plague and cholera'

  • Le Pen, who was behind Macron in the latest opinion polls, was pictured casting her ballot Sunday morning

  • Macron has watered down a campaign pledge to progressively raise the retirement age in France to 65

  • Voting stations will close at 8:00 pm local time (1800 GMT), when preliminary results will be released that usually predict the final result with a high degree of accuracy
Update at 12:45 p.m.:
Turnout figures on Sunday showed a 63.23% participation rate by 5 p.m. (1500 GMT), the interior ministry said, below the 65.30% recorded at the same time in the 2017 election.
