Unknown Warplane Targets Iranian-Backed Militias In Deir Ez-Zor

Unknown warplane targeted on Saturday a military post of Iranian-backed militias in the city of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, which resulted in the killing and injury of dozens.

Iranian-backed militias control vast areas of the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor after the military defeat of the ISIS in late 2017.

A military source of the National Defense Forces (NDF), an armed militias affiliated with the Syrian government forces, said that an unknown warplane bombarded three military posts of the Iranian-backed militias and the NDF in the city of Deir ez-Zor, killing and injuring more than ten members.

The Syrian Badia region is a source of concern for the Iranian-backed militias and the government forces, where ISIS sleeper cells launch operations that inflict heavy losses on the forces and militias, despite the intensive security campaigns to comb the Badia.

The source asserted the existence of eight corpses, including Iraqis and Afghans. More than ten members were hospitalized, according to the source.
Al Ahram adds:
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said there were no casualties or material losses in the attack, the second within a week in the province of Deir-Ez-Zor.

At least five explosions were heard, according to the monitor, in the Hawijah Kateh area and a nearby bridge north of Deir-Ez-Zor city.

Syrian state media also reported the attack but gave no details. Deir Ez-Zor is a strategic province that borders Iraq and contains oil fields.

Iran-backed militia groups and regime forces control the area and have often been the target of Israeli war planes in previous strikes.
