Turkish-Backed SNA Shells Villages In Aleppo

Turkish military and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled on Saturday residential villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo, north Syria.

For about a week, the Turkish military and the SNA have intensified shelling of the area.

Forty-two villages and five camps in Aleppo northern countryside house Afrin IDPs who fled their homes in 2018 following a Turkish incursion on the pretext of driving out Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and secure its southern border.

The Turkish military operation was called “Olive Branch” which lasted for two months and led to the killing and injury of hundreds of YPG fighters and civilians in addition to the displacement of about 300,000 to Aleppo northern countryside.

The villages of Neirabiyah, Tel Jijan, Tel al-Madiq and Ziwan were affected by the shelling, a military source from the area told North Press.

The shelling spread a state of fear among the residents.

Syrian government forces and a Russian military base are present in the area.

On Friday, the Turkish shelling on Ziyara village in the same area resulted in the killing of two government soldiers and the injury of two others.

Meanwhile, the government forces, stationed in Tel Rifaat town in Aleppo northern countryside, responded to the shelling and fired rockets at Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions, a local source said.
