Wild weekend of violence spreads across the Northeast, leaves ten shot dead and dozens wounded as temperatures hit nearly 100F during heatwave

- In New York City, police responded to at least nine shootings that left three men dead and a 17-year-old girl injured when she was randomly shot in the face at a Bronx party
- In Philadelphia, detectives are investigating at least 18 shootings, six homicides and eight stabbings since Saturday morning, and in Washington DC authorities are investigating the death of an on-duty officer
- In New Jersey, a party advertised on social media spun out of control, with police from multiple agencies responding to the scene Saturday night in riot gear
- New Jersey police arrested a total of 15 people - including 11 adults and four minors - and had to set a curfew for 9pm

We have many years of long, hot summers behind us, and no doubt more ahead. This difference now is that the police aren’t permitted to arrest miscreants, and even if they do the prosecutors won’t prosecute ‘em.
