ISIS Claims Attack On SDF Leader West Of Deir Ez-Zor

The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Friday the attacking of a leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of Jazrat Abu Hamid in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

The ISIS-run Amaq News Agency said in a statement that the organization’s militants had attacked with machine guns the car of an SDF leader near his home in the town’s center, injuring him and damaging his car.

A military source from the SDF in the town said that unknown gunmen had attacked a military vehicle, which belonged to the commander Lawrence al-Awwad, near the old police station in the town.

The commander was severely injured and hospitalized to the al-Omar Oil Field hospital, “and he is now at a critical condition,” according to a Doctor in the hospital.

On April 26, ISIS claimed three attacks that occurred earlier against members of the SDF in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

Recently, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing a spike in assassination cases which target members of the SDF, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal leaders and civilians, despite intensive security operations conducted by the SDF.

Two days ago, a member of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) was injured after some militants targeted his checkpoint in al-Hajna, a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
