Lisa Smith made anti-extremism videos in Islamic State camp in Syria
Smith agreed to participate in the making of a counter-narrative video on condition it would not be broadcast until she and her then two-year old daughter returned to Ireland. Speckhard gave Smith’s daughter chocolate to occupy her while filming took place. Smith’s interviews were later used to create four counter-Isis videos which have since been viewed thousands of times worldwide. In the videos Smith discussed how she became radicalised by joining private groups on Facebook before embarking on a life-changing journey that led her to Syria where she witnessed unspeakable violence.
