Such numbers could help sink Democratic hopes of retaining several swing districts in the US House from New York are their narrow majority hangs in the balance this November. Voters’ awareness of an ongoing increase in crime could weigh down Democrats as well despite the relative popularity of new gun restrictions at the state level, according to the poll of 802 registered voters conducted June 7-9 and June 13. "About two-thirds of New Yorkers think crime in their community is a serious problem, including 78% of New York City voters — 40% very serious — 61% of upstaters and 51% of downstate suburbanites," pollster Steven Greenberg said in a blurb.
