Lebanon To Deport 15.000 Syrian Refugees Monthly
[NPASyria] On Monday, Lebanese Minister of Displaced Affairs, Issam Sharaf El-Din, supported the issue of deporting Syrian refugees to their country, and he revealed a plan to deport about 15.000 refugees on a monthly basis.

"It’s unacceptable that Syrian refugees don’t return to their country after the end of the war there," Sharaf El-Din said.

Michel Naim Aoun was briefed about a previous meeting between Sharaf El-Din and the Representative of UNHCR in Lebanon, Ayaki Ito, on the return of the Syrian refugees.

"Lebanon is no longer able to bear the burdens of the displaced," he said

During his meeting with Aoun, he discussed proposals submitted by Lebanon to Ayaki Ito, who promised to review his reference and return to answer.

The Lebanese minister revealed the proposal which is to stop aid provided to each group of refugees, numbering 15.00. "since they receive aid on Lebanese soil, this encourages them to stay in Lebanon," he noted.

"The Syrian state extends its hand for cooperation on this file," he added.

He stressed, "It is necessary to work in coordination with the Syrian state, donors and specialized organizations to ensure a safe and dignified return to their country."

The minister said that he made proposals to Ito, on the return of refugees, including the formation of a three-way committee with Syria and UNHCR.

The number of the Syrian refugees residing in Lebanon is approximately 1.5 million, about 900.000 of whom are registered at the UNHCR.
