Homeland Security inspector general launches CRIMINAL probe into missing Secret Service texts - as new watchdog report shows agency knew about messages but didn't tell January 6 panel
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] - The Homeland Security Inspector General's office told the U.S. Secret Service's office that its probe into the missing text messages is now criminal
- Also instructed the agency to halt all internal investigations
- Two whistleblowers who worked under Trump-appointed Inspector General Joseph Cuffari claim watchdog didn't report February findings to Congress about the purge
- The January 6 select committee subpoenaed the Secret Service for agents' texts from around the day of the Capitol riot
- Agency claims the texts were deleted as part of a device-replacement program
“To ensure the integrity of our investigation, the USSS must not engage in any further investigative activities regarding the collection and preservation of the evidence referenced above,' DHS Deputy Inspector General Gladys Ayala wrote in a letter to Secret Service Director James Murray on Wednesday evening, according to the Wednesday report.
