Government Forces Bring Military Reinforcements To South Syria’s Daraa

[NPASyria] Syrian government forces brought in, on Friday, military reinforcements including heavy vehicles and artilleries to the city of Daraa, southern Syria.

A local source told North Press that the government forces brought in military vehicles, including BMP-3 vehicles, AZP S-60 anti-aircraft guns, and several cars with dozens of soldiers on board entered the city of Daraa.

The source added that the reinforcements headed to the Municipal Stadium in the Panorama neighborhood.

Another source from the area said that the reinforcements came as a preparation to launch a military action on some towns west of Daraa.

Days ago, Mufid Hassan, head of the Security Committee of the government forces threatened to launch an attack against some towns of the governorate in case the government’s demands are not answered which to hand over the wanted and to inspect the houses, according to the source.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.

In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.

One Individual Killed In Syria’s Daraa

[NPASyria] On Friday, an individual was killed by unknown gunmen in the western countryside of Daraa, south Syria.

The young man, Muhammad al-Awadi, a civilian working in the poultry trade, was killed after being targeted by unknown individuals riding a motorcycle, near the town of Tel Shehab in the western countryside of Daraa, an eyewitness told North Press.

Al-Awadi had never joined any military formation, the eyewitness added.

Al-Awadi was subjected to assassination attempts, the most recent of which was in December 2021, the eyewitness noted.

Daraa governorate continues to witness ongoing killing operations without knowing the party behind them, as no party has claimed responsibility for these attacks.

Secretary Of Ba’ath Party Killed In Syria’s Daraa

[NPASyria] A Secretary of a branch of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party was killed on Thursday in a shooting by unknown gunmen in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

A local source told North Press that “Salama Abdulrahman al-Qaddah, Secretary of the Baath Party branch in the city of al-Hirak in the eastern countryside of Daraa, was shot dead by unidentified attackers.”

He added that al-Qaddah is one of the most prominent figures of the Syrian government in the city, and was among the members of the settlement committees that facilitated the Russian-mediated settlement agreement in 2018.

Al-Qaddah returned to Daraa after the government forces regained control over the governorate in 2018. He lived in the city of Izraa in northern Daraa, but later moved to al-Hirak after assuming his current position.

This is not the first time a secretary of the Ba’ath party gets assassinated, as two months ago unknown gunmen killed both Fouad al-Aboud, secretary of the party’s branch in the town of al-Naimah, and Awad al-Aboud, head of the town’s municipal council, in eastern Daraa.

Casualties In Government Forces In Syria’s Daraa

[NPASyria] On Wednesday, an armed attack north of Daraa in southern Syria killed two soldiers of the Syrian government forces and wounded an officer and another soldier.

A local source told North Press, “Unidentified attackers opened fire on the vehicle of Captain Ali Khaddour, an officer in the Air Force Intelligence branch in Daraa Governorate, near the town of Jbab in the northern countryside of Daraa.”

Khaddour was seriously wounded and subsequently taken to a hospital. Three soldiers accompanied the officer, two were killed while the other was injured.

Consequently, the source said, the government sent military vehicles to the scene, in addition to setting up temporary checkpoints to search for suspects.

The officer is in charge of the government’s posts and checkpoints deployed on the Damascus-Daraa highway.

Khaddour had previously survived two assassination attempts in Daraa eastern countryside, one in May and the other in October 2021.

On Tuesday, Hussam al-Aboud, a leader of an armed group affiliated with the Air Force Intelligence branch of the government forces in Daraa, was killed by unidentified gunmen in the town of al-Naima, east of Daraa.

Unidentified Gunmen Target Government Forces Leader In Syria’s Daraa

[NPASyria] A leader of an armed group affiliated with Syrian government forces was killed on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen in the eastern countryside of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.

A local source told North Press that Hossam Daifallah al-Aboud, a leader of an armed group affiliated with Air Force Intelligence branch of the government forces was killed by unidentified gunmen in the town of al-Naima, in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

Al-Aboud used to be a former member of Syrian opposition, but he and his group joined the government forces after they obtained settlement cards in 2018, the source added.
