Dostum commander bumped off at son's wedding...
Ghulam Sakhi Bashi, deputy head of Dostum's 70th division, was shot on Thursday night during his son's wedding ceremony in Charbolak, about 30 kilometres to the west of Mazar, they said. "He had no personal enemies and we don't know why these gunmen killed him," Bashi's son, Mohammad Zahir, told Reuters. An Afghan with no personal enemies? The man musta been a saint... However, many residents say the killing could have been linked to a continuing feud between supporters of Dostum and those of Tajik commander Usted Atta for control of the north. They said Ghulam had been considering changing sides and joining Atta, who has been gradually expanding his influence in the area this year and now largely controls Mazar.
