Turkey Cuts Off Water To Syria’s Hasakah For 27th Time
[North Press] The city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria has been deprived of drinking water since August 11 due to the halt of Alouk water station by The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there. Alouk water station, which lies in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in the northern countryside of Hasakah, is the only water resource feeding Hasakah and its countryside. The station is controlled by  ...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...and its affiliated SNA since 2019. In 2019, Sabri told North Press that during the past two months, the drinking water only reached Hasakah neighborhoods for 15 days per month. Since October 2019, Turkey has halted service at the station about 27 times; the last time was in the middle of July due to a malfunction in the Derbasiyah power station that feeds the station. The malfunction was caused by the SNA factions who fed the station with eight megawatts, while it is designed to operate at three megawatts.
