- Cantu was sitting in his car eating a cheeseburger outside of McDonald's alongside a female companion when Officer James Brennand approached the car and told him to get out
- As the pair struggled, Brennand fired his weapon five times, wounding Cantu
- Prior to the release of the bodycam footage of the shooting, the officer maintained he only fired his weapon after he was hit by Cantu's car
- On Wednesday, Brennand, a probationary officer who was on the job for seven months, was fired from the San Antonio Police Department
- At the time of writing, Cantu is listed as being critical but stable condition
