CBP records highest EVER annual number of migrants crossing southern border illegally - 2.37m - and that doesn't include the ones that got away!
- In total, there were 227,547 encounters along the southwest land border in September, a 12 percent increase compared to August
- By comparison there were 192,001 crossings in 2001, 57,674 in 2020 and 52, 546 in 2019 when then-President Trump had his own surge at the border
- It means for the Fiscal Year ending September 30th, there was a total of 2,378,944 encounters
- That far exceeded last year’s record of more than 1.7 million arrests
- A large number of individuals fleeing failing authoritarian regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba is contributing to increased numbers crossing the border
