At least 10 killed and 20 wounded in bomb attack near Baghdad
[HODHODYEMENNEWS] At least ten people were killed and more than 20 maimed in a kaboom in east of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad on Saturday, Iraqi local media reported, citing security and medical sources.
According to security sources, the earth-shattering kaboom took place in a garage near a football stadium and a café, when an bomb attached to a vehicle detonated, leading to another explosion of a gas tanker that was close by.
Most of the victims were amateurs playing football in their neighborhood stadium, the sources said.
A military statement said a gas tanker went kaboom! in a garage in East Baghdad causing a number of casualties and security forces are investigating the cause of the earth-shattering kaboom, without giving further details.
According to medical sources, about 12 people had been killed in the earth-shattering kaboom.
Baghdad Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Ahmed Salim Bahjat revealed new details about the earth-shattering kaboom northeast of Baghdad.
In an exclusive statement, Bahjat told Shafaq News Agency, "A gas tanker, parked in a garage in the al-Qahira neighborhood in Baghdad, blew up, which scattered parts of it towards the Talbiyah area into a football stadium where a large crowd was present.
The Commander pointed out that "the earth-shattering kaboom killed nine civilians and maimed 13 others."
Concerning the possible causes, Bahjat said, "Forensic experts would submit their report soon." But earlier, a security source told our Agency that an bomb attached to a vehicle in a car park blew up, leading to another explosion of a gas tanker explosion near a football stadium and a coffee shop.
The explosion was heard across Baghdad.
