Yet Another Major Sierra Snowstorm for the weekend
[Wunderground] Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet, except 2 to 4 feet above 7000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph, with up to 100 mph along the Sierra crest.
* WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
* WHEN...From 10 AM Saturday to 4 AM PST Monday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Strong
winds may cause tree damage and lead to power outages. Blowing and drifting snow may bring near zero visibility at times and rapid disorientation if attempting to travel.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Additional snow loading on top of very deep existing snow pack may create unusual hazards including, but not limited to: structural instabilities, roof alanches, fire hydrant access problems, delayed first responders, and shelter in place orders. There are two periods to watch for heavier rates of snowfall, where rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are possible: Saturday afternoon and again before sunrise Sunday.
--------------
and lots of road closures are expected - not only in Sierra as snow removal becomes more difficult as the piles on the side of the road get deeper and deeper
