[ShabelleMedia] The Somali National Army [SNA] attacked a main base housing the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab

State, residents said.

The SNA forces targeted a camp, where al-Shabaab members have been mobilizing themselves to stage attack against the country’s military in nearby Amara town.

The ambush led to a face-to-face confrontation between the SNA and al-Shabaab fighters in the remote area with reports that both sides suffered losses but the number still unclear.

The raid was part of ongoing military operation in Galmudug and other Federal States in south and central Somalia which aims to dislodge al-Shabaab from the remaining pockets.

In mid January this year, the government forces and local clan fighters seized Harardhere and Galcad towns in Mudug region after the bully boyz fled without a fight.

Harardhere is a key coastal town and a former pirate hub. It was the biggest and most strategic town in Galmudug that was still in the hands of al-Shabaab until 2023.

SNA inflicted "heavy losses" through the current major offensive that recorded historic gains since its launch in August 2022.

In his new year’s speech, President Hassan Sheikh said this year will be a re-liberation, stabilization and state-building, a goal that faces challenges on its way to be executed.
