Imprisoned al-Qaida members rescued by Afghan tribesmen
Pakistan army troops have been called-in to the frontier regions of Bannu after four arrested al-Qaida members were forcibly released by local tribesmen on Sunday, September 1. Proximate to F R Bannu, Frontier Constabulary (FC) Packet troops arrested six Al-Qaida members, two of whom managed to escape, and informed the nearby tribesmen of Janni Khail about the situation. Later hundreds of armed Janni Khail tribesmen descended upon the FC Packet, forcing them to release the four. The next morning, a large delegation of Pakistani Army and FC troops attempted to negotiate with the tribes. However, so far the tribes have not handed any of them to these troops.
This is Azzam's version of what I blogged yesterday. We didn't get the part about the turbans having sprung them from durance vile in the first place...
