2 People Publicly Flogged in Afghanistan’s Paktika
[KhaamaPress] Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men...’s Supreme Court has announced that two convicts accused of allegedly stealing in the Khusamand district of eastern Paktika ...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo... province were flogged in public. The Supreme Court on Saturday in a statement said that Taliban security forces arrested the criminals who confessed to their crimes. According to the announcement of the Taliban’s Supreme Court, the convicts were punished in public so it should be an example for others. Although the method of punishment was not specified in the announcement, local sources reported that convicts were lashed in public. The Taliban authorities started lashing convicts accused of different crimes, which prompted widespread condemnations from human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... organizations and the international community last year. Last month, the United Nations ...where theory meets practice and practice loses... released a comprehensive report, indicating during the past six months, 274 men, 58 women and 2 boys were flogged in public. As per this report, another convict was publicly executed by Taliban officials. The UN has repeatedly called on the de facto authorities of Afghanistan to immediately stop public execution, and respect human rights, dignity and values. Since the group’s return to power in August 2021, the Taliban have issued restrictive policies banning women and girls’ education, work and public engagement.
