Leader in Iran-backed militia found dead in Syrian Desert
[NPASyria] Residents of a town in eastern Homs, central Syria, found on Sunday the body of a leader in an Iran-backed militia killed by gunfire.
A source from the Iran-backed Liwa Zainebiyoun militia said that shepherds from the town of al-Sukhna, eastern Homs, found the body of Muntasir al-Daham, 39, a leader in the militia, with bound hands and gunshots to his head.
"Al-Daham is the commander of the special tasks group in the Zainebiyoun, and he is an Iraqi national," the source added.
The pro-Iranian factions and Syrian government forces control vast areas of the Syrian Desert and eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, which continue to witness increasing activity by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).
Contact was lost with al-Daham eight days ago, after he left an outpost in Palmyra, in central Homs Governorate, heading to al-Sukhna, according to the source.
No party has grabbed credit for the incident so far.
