Spanish police dismantle network for smuggling Syrian immigrants

The police arrested 19 suspects of a criminal network involved in illegal smuggling, of which six have entered pretrial detention. The police stated that they "disrupted the logistical structure of a criminal organization specialized in smuggling Syrian Investigators noted that the dismantled network was part of an extensive criminal network throughout different countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. They received €20,000 per person to be smuggled by air, sea and land. Over 12 million Syrians remained forcibly displaced, including almost 6.8 million within the country and 5.4 million living as refugees in neighboring countries, according to the UN.
