18 Afghan Refugees Detained in Turkey
[8am] Reports indicate that Turkish security forces have detained 18 Afghan refugees in Çanakkale province, Türkiye.

On Tuesday, September 12, the Anatolia News Agency reported that these individuals were apprehended in an operation conducted by Turkish gendarmerie teams in the Ayvacık region of Çanakkale province.

The detained group comprises five women, six men, and seven children, with an additional person arrested on charges of human trafficking.

This development follows recent events in which Turkish security forces apprehended 122 refugees, including Afghan citizens, in Edirne province while attempting illegal border crossings.

The process of detaining and deporting Afghan migrants from Iran and Turkey has intensified once again.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that in the first half of this calendar year, 310,000 individuals lacking official residency documents in Iran were expelled from the country.
