BREAKING: Pentagon: US warship and several commercial ships under attack in Red Sea
 [IsraelTimes] An American warship and multiple fat merchantmen have come under attack in the Red Sea, the Pentagon says, potentially marking a major escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Mideast linked to the Israel-Hamas...a regional Iranian catspaw,... war. "We’re aware of reports regarding attacks on the USS Carney and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and will provide information as it becomes available," the Pentagon says. The British military earlier said there had been a suspected drone attack and explosions in the Red Sea, without elaborating. The Pentagon did not identify where it believed the fire came from. The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations issues a brief warning to shippers that the incident happened in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which separates East Africa from the Arabian Peninsula. The UKMTO said drone activity also has been reported in the area. The Bab el-Mandeb links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. That area has seen a series of attacks in recent weeks attributed to Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, who have also launched missiles and drones toward Israel over its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
