Russian plane bursts into flames after 'powerful explosion' minutes after takeoff
[Daily Express US via MSN] A Russian cargo plane has been captured exploding in the sky just minutes after taking off from Ulan-Ude airport.
The Tu-204 airplane was seen trailing flames after its engine appeared to explode. The pilots were forced to make an emergency landing just minutes after takeoff.
A woman witness Lyubov Pichueva said: "I heard a powerful explosion coming from above. At first, I thought it was fireworks, but the sound was too strange. It was very scary."
The flight was thought to be ferrying goods between China and Russia amid Western sanctions targeting Vladimir Putin's economy.
The Aviastar aircraft took off from Baikal Airport in Ulan-Ude heading for the Chinese city of Zhangzhou when an explosion saw the left engine catch fire.
The plane dumped its fuel before making an emergency landing using one engine, according to Alexey Tsydenov, head of the Buryatia region.
