2 Hezbollah fighters among 10 dead in Israeli strike in Syria
[NAHARNET] Six civilians and two Hezbollah fighters were among 10 people killed in Israeli air strikes on the central Syrian city of Homs early Wednesday, a war monitor said.

"Ten people, including six civilians and two Hezbollah fighters, were killed in Israeli strikes on a building in the Hamra neighborhood of Homs," the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, told AFP.

The strikes completely levelled the building in one of the city's most affluent districts, and also hit other targets linked to Iran-backed groups, Abdel Rahman said.

Three students and a woman were among the dead, two of whom have yet to be identified, Abdel Rahman added.

Two Hezbollah fighters were among the dead, a source close to the Iran-backed Lebanese group confirmed to AFP.

The Syrian defense ministry gave no precise casualty figures. "The Israeli enemy launched air strikes against a number of sites in Homs and its countryside... killing and wounding a number of civilians," it said.

State television aired footage of rescue teams searching the rubble of a collapsed building for survivors.
Hodhod Yemen News adds:
Syria’s official SANA news agency reported, citing a military source, "At approximately 00:30 at dawn on Wednesday, the Israeli enemy launched an aerial attack with missiles from the direction of northern Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, targeting a number of points in the city of Homs and its countryside, and the army air defenses intercepted the aggression’s missiles and shot down some of them," the source said in a statement.
And from the Times of Israel:
Local sources tell Reuters that the attack targeted several Syrian army outposts and an airbase in the Homs area, with a Syrian military intelligence source familiar with the matter saying it targeted the Shayrat airbase.

Earlier from the Times of Israel:
The pro-government Sham FM radio says some missiles impacted areas near al-Qusayr, south of Homs, causing a fire.
